Peak power demand in Delhi reached an all-time high of 8656 MW on Wednesday afternoon due to massive electricity use during a grueling heat wave that lasted for weeks, according to discom officials.

Tuesday had the second-highest peak power consumption of this summer, measuring 8647 MW.

The State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) in Delhi’s real-time data indicates that on Wednesday at 15:06:55 hrs., the peak electricity demand was recorded at 8656 MW.

According to the weather service, Delhi saw its warmest night in twelve years on Tuesday, with a low temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius—more than eight degrees above the season’s average.

It is anticipated that the day’s highest temperature would be approximately 44 degrees Celsius.
