The Gujarat Congress on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission seeking removal of tainted officers in Gujarat government from poll related procedures. It demanded that IPS officials Abhay Chudasama, Rajkumar Pandian and Surat collector MS Patel should be kept away from poll related duties. The delegation led by AICC general secretary Dipak Babariya reached the office of CEO BB Swain in Gandhinagar and submitted the mmorandum. Babariya said, “Names of Chudasama and Pandian were involved in fake encounter cases of Shorabuddin Sheikh and murder of his wife Kaushar bi. They have tainted background and their names were involved in serious criminal case of murder. So we have requested the Election Commission to keep them away from poll duties.””When Pandian was Porbandar SP he had a confrontation with Congress leader and candidate from Porbandar Arjun Modhwadia. He is the range IG there now and could act against Modhwadia for old rivalry. The Surat collector MS Patel who is also a district election officer is inclined towards BJP and had used bad words for our president Sonia Gandhi. In that case, he may influence the poll procedures on seats falling in Surat district that could be against the democratic system,” added Babariya.Abhay Chudasama is the Inspector General (IG) in Vadodara Range, while Pandian is IG in Porbandar region. MS Patel, Surat collector was believed to contest the polls as BJP candidate from Unjha constituency in Mehsana district, however, BJP gave the ticket to sitting MLA Naranbhai Patel. The Congress delegation also demanded that VVPAT chit counting at 10% of total booths should be taken under consideration in place of random selection of one booth in each of 182 constituencies. The Congress also complained that the district election officer in Kutch did not allow checking of 50% of total VVPAT and EVMs in Rapar constituency.
