The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and the BJP-led municipal corporations engaged in a blame-game over providing relief to traders on Friday. In a meeting to discuss the issue of notifying 351 roads for mixed land use, Delhi’s Urban Development Minister Satyender Jain told the civic bodies to submit a fresh report on the same. However, the corporations maintain the notification has been pending since 2007, and asking for a fresh report now was another way of delaying the matter. However, the mayors of South, North and East corporations said they will be submitting the report by January 22.”We have asked the corporations to submit fresh paperwork to check compliance with the Delhi Master Plan. I have asked them to submit it within two days but they (mayors) said, they will submit it by January 22,” said Jain. The AAP government and the corporations have been at loggerheads over the notification of 351 roads in the city from commercial to mix-land use.Jain had said earlier this this week that the government wrote to the civic bodies separately five times but “no response was received.” To this the mayors retorted that the government has not passed the notification for so long even though they gave a response each time they were asked to by the government.South Corporation mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat, said, “There was not a single time that we did not respond to the government. Also, the notification has been pending since 2007 from the time of the Unified MCD and it has been three years of the AAP government in power, but they have again delayed it by asking us for some clerical details, without which they could have passed the notification anyway.””If the government was committed to saving the city’s traders from sealing action, they could have notified these roads which have remained the same since 2007,”Sehrawat added. The municipal corporations had sealed over 30 shops and showrooms on Chahtarpur-Bhatti road earlier this month for “misuse” on directions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee. The sealing drive has been going on against such violations in the city since.East Corporation Commissioner Ranbir Singh said, “The issue of notifying these 351 roads has been pending since 2007. The Delhi government has to notify these roads.”Fighting over…The AAP government and the corporations have been at loggerheads over the notification of 351 roads in the city from commercial to mixed land use.
