Four persons lost their lives after they consumed adulterated liquor in Ghaziabad’s Khora area on Monday night. The Station House Officer (SHO) of the area and three others were suspended for dereliction of their duties. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an inquiry with regard to the incident.Five friends, identified as Sandeep (18), Ashok (40), Avinash (27), Ravinder (29) and Sriniwas (30) decided to drink and bought hooch from a local liquor mafia. While Sandeep, Ashok, Avinash, Ravinder passed away, Sriniwas is still battling for life at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Delhi.The victims had consumed the illicit liquor on Monday night after which they fell sick and were admitted to the hospital. All five victims lived in Shankar Vihar colony of Ghaziabad and worked as daily wage labourers to sustain themselves.”Four people have died after consuming illicit liquor in Shankar Vihar colony under the Khora police station area. The victims, identified as Sandeep, Ashok, Avinash, Ravinder and Sriniwas, fell sick after consuming hooch last night. Moments later Sandeep, Ashok and Avinash fell unconscious and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HN Singh.Ravinder died on Tuesday morning while Sriniwas is still undergoing treatment.The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government had passed a bill providing death penalty and life imprisonment for those dealing in illicit liquor. Earlier in January, nine people died after allegedly consuming poisonous alcohol at their relative’s place in Barabanki.The SSP also suspended Khora SHO, Dhuruv Bhushan Dubey, police post in-charge Ram Samajh Rana and beat constables Rajbir Singh and Mohammad Asgar for dereliction of duty after the incident came to light.
