The state government, on Tuesday, said the lower cut-off for the school fees will be declared on Wednesday, following the Supreme court order. Once the revised lower cut-off will be declared, against that mentioned in the Act, Rs 15000, Rs 25000 and Rs 27000 for primary, secondary and higher secondary schools respectively, schools that wish to charge more than the cut-off will submit their proposals to the fee regulatory committee. The SC had said that the state government shall carry out the exercise of fixing exemption limit. For this, they shall hear the representatives of the petitioner-schools and one representative from each of the parents’ associations, one which opposes the Act and the other which supports the Act. The state shall mention the norms by which the various factors suggested by the citizens for fixing the exemption limit will be taken into account. After such limit is fixed, the FRC shall scrutinize the proposals and the accounts submitted by various schools and fix the fees. Preferably, the state may create categories of fee structure along with facilities made available by the schools for easy determination of the fees chargeable by them, the order said.”When DNA contacted AJ Shah, Chairman, Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board to inquire about the report, he said, “I have submitted my report, the state government will decide now.” Sources at the department said, “The state government was only to hear three sets of people and that include schools, parents who are against the Act and who are supporting the Act. However, rather then approaching them, the government gave an advertisement in the newspaper seeking suggestions, if any.”BABU-SPEAKAJ Shah, chairman of GSHSEB said, “I have submitted my report, the state government will decide now.”
