Jamia Millia Islamia’s website hacked, birthday message appears

The official website of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) was hacked late on Monday night with the hacker wishing “Happy Birthday” to someone called Pooja. Even as the officials claimed to have restored it within hours, the website was not working properly by Tuesday afternoon. The matter came to light at around 12:30 am when while accessing the website, some students noticed that the website was hacked with “Happy Birthday Pooja” written on it. The message was undersigned by “Your Love”. “Since the examination session is going on, we keep on checking the website for latest updates. Last night, when I accidentally opened it, I saw the message and then I forwarded screenshots to someone in the administration,” said Imran Ahmed, an MBA student.Similarly, another student at the university’s Mass Communication centre said, “I wanted to check something related to my syllabus on the website, but I found it hacked at around 1 am. It took the administration more than 6-7 hours to fix it. It is a lot of time during exams.”The message went viral on social media by Tuesday morning prompting the administration to react. “It’s very unfortunate that some mischievous elements are creating problems for students during admission and exam time by doing this. The website is operated by an external agency and its server is not in the campus. Immediately after getting the information, we informed the concerned authority and the website was restored,” said JMI Registrar, AP Siddiqui. This is not the first time when official website of an educational institution got hacked. Last year, websites of Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University and IIT-Delhi were hacked around the same time allegedly by some Pakistan based hackers. “To avoid any such incident in future, we are considering to take appropriate action in the matter. The website is now working properly both on desktop/laptop or mobile phones” Siddiqui said.

BMC engineers hand in glove with builders: Activists

According to activists, illegal commercial constructions in the western suburbs, especially in Bandra, Santracuz, Khar area regularised by the BMC by submitting the amended plan. “The fact that the commissioner cannot inspect every structure proposed for regularisation, is taken advantage of by violators. The report submitted by junior engineers have facts twisted to get clearance from the head quarters,” Aftab Siddiqui, an activist from Khar, said.”Junior engineers and sub-engineers of the building and proposal department of the BMC are hand in gloves with the architects and builders. The engineers are informed about the new constructions in advance.””Also, when complaints about illegal constructions are filed, the ward office forwards it to the building proposal or building factory department. This delays the replies.””Additionally, when the court gives a stay, the BMC does not produce the actual facts in court, so that the stay is never vacated and the construction can be carried out. There is no co-ordination between the law department and building factory department, which fuels the illegal constructions,” Siddiqui added. However, Sachin Ghewade, official from the H-East ward, said, “Eighty per cent of H-East ward is slum area, and we get complaints of illegal additions of floors or a window, etc. We do not get too many complaints on illegal construction of commercial structures. If we get any complaint, we forward it to the appropriate department.”

New biz district to come up at Wadala; MMRDA submits report

The plan was recently approved by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The plan to make Wadala as third CBD is by shifting or redeveloping the truck terminal located there. “The decision towards relocation/redevelopment of the Wadala Truck Terminal area has provided the Wadala Notified Area an opportunity to have an exciting mix of land uses and building types, rather than be surrounded by dysfunctional, low-rise development,” the report said. ”

Hence, there is a requirement of a third commercial business district (CBD) to fill the gap in market for quality commercial spaces, says a Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) prepared report. The MMRDA which is the Special Planning Authority (SPA) of BKC is also planning to convert huge land parcel of Wadala Truck Terminal (WTT) into city’s third CBD where MMRDA is a SPA measuring around 122 hectares. “Once BKC reaches saturation over the next decade or so, Wadala can be conceived as the third CBD of Mumbai which will fill the gap in the market for quality commercial spaces,” reads the report prepared by MMRDA. Raj Thackeray should clarify ideology to join ‘anti-BJP front’: Congress leader Manikrao Thakre

A senior Congress leader has said the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) must clarify its ideology and stand on various issues before it makes any move to join an “anti-BJP” front.Last Sunday, MNS chief Raj Thackeray called for a “Modi-mukt Bharat” by 2019, setting off speculation about his political moves ahead of the next general elections and possibility of joining the Congress-led opposition bloc. The regional outfit, whose foundation is rooted in the `sons-of-the-soil’ agenda, has said a party’s stand needs to change as per the prevailing political situation.Manikrao Thakre, a former state Congress chief, said ever since Raj Thackeray formed his own party 12 years ago after leaving the Shiv Sena, there has been no consistency in his political stand.”He will have to clarify whether he espouses a national perspective or wants to stick to the regional agenda and anti-migrant stance.”Even though he is critical of the BJP and the Shiv Sena, his ideology is no different from the two saffron partners,” said Thakre, who is now Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council.Any move to get a place in the “Congress-led anti-BJP front” can materialise only if he clarifies his ideology, he said.On speculation about NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Raj Thackeray coming closer, Thakre avoided a direct reply and said only the Maratha strongman can speak on this issue. He said there is a need for all Republican Party factions to come together.Prakash Ambedkar, Jogendra Kawade, Rajendra Gavai and Ramdas Athawale (a BJP ally), who head different factions of the Dalit party, should not go separate ways, he opined.”They should come together in the interest of the nation to oppose the BJP’s ideology,” Thakre said.MNS spokesman Vageesh Saraswat said there can be no consistency in a political party’s stand.”It (a party) needs to change and adapt to changes as per the prevailing political situation. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are the recent examples,” he said.Naidu recently walked out of the NDA, while Kumar joined the BJP-led coalition last year after quitting the RJD- Congress alliance in Bihar.A source in the MNS said Raj Thackeray will be comfortable being part of a “non-BJP and non-Congress front” of regional parties led by Pawar.”To counter (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, there is no other acceptable face than Pawar. If there is anyone else, that name can be discussed,” the source said.In 2014, Raj Thackeray supported Modi’s candidature for the PM’s post. He even stayed in Gujarat for 10 days as Modi’s guest. Now, he wants Pawar to lead an “anti-Modi front”, he said. The Congress will not join any third front as it is a national party and would instead want all the non-BJP parties to accept Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, the MNS source said.”It is not yet known if all the non-BJP parties will accept Rahul Gandhi’s leadership,” he said.Meanwhile, NCP spokesman Nawab Malik said not much should be read into Raj Thackeray’s recent meeting with Pawar.”It was a personal meeting,” he said.Malik, however, admitted there is no clarity on Raj Thackeray’s ideology and stand on various issues.Pawar wants to expand the Congress-led UPA by roping in like-minded parties, but there is no talk of willingness or opposition by UPA partners to admit Raj Thackeray into their fold, the NCP spokesman said.Pawar is expected to host a dinner for leaders of opposition parties in New Delhi next week as part of efforts to forge unity among them ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

39 Indians dead in Iraq: US and UN offer deepest condolences

The US today offered its “deepest condolences” on the death of 39 Indian nationals abducted by ISIS in Iraq, saying it stands with the people of India in condemning the murders. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj yesterday told Parliament in New Delhi that the 39 Indians abducted in 2014 by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in Mosul city were dead and their bodies had been recovered. “We offer our deepest condolences. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims,” a State Department spokesperson told PTI responding to a question on the discovery of a mass grave with the bodies of the Indian construction workers.”We stand with the people of India in condemning these murders,” the spokesperson said. The United Nations condoled the death of 39 Indian nationals abducted by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Iraq, saying the tragedy is yet another example of barbarism and cruelty by the notorious terror outfit.Jan Kubis, the secretary-general’s special representative for Iraq extended his deepest sorrow and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and government of India.External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday confirmed that 39 Indians, who went missing in Mosul in Iraq in the year 2014 have been killed.Speaking at Rajya Sabha, Swaraj said that the dreaded terror outfit Islamic State had killed all the Indian nationals. In July 2017, Swaraj had firmly said in the Parliament that she would not declare the 39 Indians dead without concrete proof or evidence.”It is a sin to declare a person dead without concrete evidence. I will not do this sin,” Swaraj said in a statement in the Lok Sabha in 2017.Earlier, India had asked Iraq for help in locating the missing Indians after Iraqi forces recaptured Mosul from the Islamic State. The 39 persons, most of whom hailed from Punjab, were working on projects near Mosul, when they were kidnapped during their evacuation.Led by its elusive leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ISIS had seized a third of Iraq’s territory in 2014, before being pushed back by the security forces of a United States-led coalition.ISIS is accused of mass killings of innocent civilians including many foreigners. The northern Iraqi city of Mosul has now been liberated from the ISIS. The bodies of Indian workers were found buried near the village of Badsuh, which is in the northwest of Mosul.

2G Spectrum case: Delhi High Court issues notice to all accused

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to all the accused in the 2G Spectrum case on the appeal filed by Enforcement Directorate and CBI in connection with the acquittal of former telecom minister A. Raja and others in the 2G spectrum case. The High Court has ordered to maintain status quo in relation to attached properties by Enforcement Directorate.Next date of hearing is May 25th.”Deprived party can go for an appeal, that is a statutory right. Suppose if I am convicted, am I not entitled to appeal? That is quite natural, noting special. it was 100% anticipated,” said A Raja. The probe agency on Tuesday filed the appeal in the high court after a special CBI court in a shocking judgment in December last year acquitted all the 19 accused, including A. Sexual harrassment row: Fresh trouble for angel investor Mahesh Murthy, second FIR filed

In fresh trouble for venture capitalist and angel investor Mahesh Murthy, a second case alleging sexual harassment has been filed by Mumbai Police against him. This is connection with a complaint filed by a woman in Mumbai’s Khar Police station, reports The Indian Express. Police has confirmed the FIR but hasn’t commented any further, while Murthy has downplayed it as ‘complete nonsense’. The FIR was filed last week and the case has been subsequently been transferred to Bandra Police station. The FIR is a complaint based on an incident from 2004, claims victim. According to the lady, Mahesh Murthy touched her inappropriately inside a Bandra coffee shop. According to police officer quoted in the report, ” The complainant was working as an intern with an advertising firm. She claims she was overwhelmed on meeting Murthy. Later, Murthy called her to a restaurant in Bandra and suddenly kissed her. She was shocked, so she left the place and never got in touch with Murthy again”. However, Mahesh Murthy has denied all allegations and said the charges are ‘completely false’ and ‘ridiculous’. Weeks after venture capitalist Mahesh Murthy was arrested and released on bail by the Khar police in an alleged sexual harassment and stalking case, four women approached the National Commission for Women (NCW), alleging sexual harassment by Murthy. he NCW has forwarded the complaints to Maharashtra police chief and chief minister, urging them to take strict action. Also readMolestation case: Mahesh Murthy released after court’s order, says will fight to defend reputationAccording to the NCW, the four complainants include a journalist and a government official, and are from cities like Mumbai, Bhubaneshwar, Bengaluru and Australia.”If the allegations are true, he is dangerous to the society,” said Rekha Sharma, Member with the additional charge of Chairperson, NCW. An NCW member claimed that one of tomehe victims stated in her complaint that Murthy, on the eve of Diwali in 2016, texted her some explicit content, while another complainant alleged that Murthy had molested her at a coffee shop in a five-star hotel in Mumbai. Two of the wn alleged Murty molested them in his office in Mumbai.”I received four more complaints against Murthy. I am shocked to read the details… how is this man roaming free? If the allegations are true, he is dangerous to the society. I have forwarded all the complaints to DGP and CM of Maharashtra, requesting them to take strict action and press serious charges against Murthy, if the complaints are found to be true,” said Rekha Sharma, Member with the additional charge of Chairperson, NCW.The first FIR was filed by a Delhi based woman. Mahesh Murthy was arrested briefly before being released on bail.

39 Indians killed in Iraq: Family of deceased demand proof, asks Swaraj to share DNA test report

On Wednesday, family member of one of the 39 who were declared dead by India, has asked for proof of his demise.Malkit Ram, brother of Saganadlal, told ANI: “My brother went to Iraq in 2012 where he worked as a carpenter. We had been asking MEA for proof of him being alive or dead. We demand that reports of the DNA test be given to us.”Fighting off their tears, earlier, family members of the eight people from Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts confirmed dead in Iraq yesterday, recounted their struggle over the past nearly four years for authoritative information about them. The eight people from the two districts in Punjab were among the 39 Indians abducted by the Islamic State terrorist group in 2014. Their whereabouts had remained uncertain until now and the families had hoped they would see them alive. That hope unexpectedly shattered on Tuesday.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the 39 Indians were killed in the Iraqi city of Mosul, liberated from the dreaded group in June last year. Also readISIS abduction: Lone survivor Harjit Masih demands job, withdrawal of trafficking case against himFollowing the confirmation, a pall of gloom descended on the bereaved families.Gurwinder Kaur’s eyes were moist as she unsuccessfully tried to hold off her tears. A resident of Mehta village, she said her brother Manjinder Singh had gone to Iraq for employment. Also readSurvivor Harjit Masih was lying, escaped ISIS by pretending to be Ali: Sushma Swaraj”One day, I got a telephone call from my brother from Iraq, informing he was stuck and it seemed difficult to come out of the unpredictable circumstances due to terrorist activities,” she said. The Union government, she said, offered her empathetic words over the years “but nothing was done by the government.” In October last year, relatives of the eight Punjabi-origin people had visited the Government Medical College in Amritsar to provide DNA samples for matching with the Indians stuck in the war-torn country, if required. Also readMeet Harjit Masih – the only Indian who survived and escaped ISIS’ death squad in IraqAt that time, they possibly did not know their biggest fear would come true within the next five months.”I had an intuition when the government asked us to go for DNA tests. I knew something serious has happened to my brother, but the government was not willing to (disclose the purpose of collecting the DNA samples). This news has crushed everything to the ground,” Kaur said.Balwinder Kaur from Manochahal village in Tarn Taran district too struggled to hold back her tears. Her son, Ranjit Singh, is among the 39 Indians declared dead.”Being a mother, it is difficult to bear the permanent separation from my son… Nobody from the Indian authority was in a position to tell me the plight of my son,” she rued.Gurmeet Kaur from Jallalusma village in Amritsar district said she was informed via a telephone call that her brother Gurcharan Singh was “stuck in bad circumstances” in Iraq. She said nobody informed her about whether he was dead or alive, and on Tuesday she was told her brother was killed by ISIS.According to the two district administrations, the eight persons declared dead in Iraq were Nishan Singh, Ranjit Singh, Harsimran Singh, Manjinder Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Sonu, Jatinder Singh and Harish Kumar.Addresing the media soon after her statement in Rajya Sabha, Swaraj did not give a direct answer to when the 39 Indians were killed. She said it was irrelevant as the bodies could have been recovered only after Mosul was freed from the ISIS. With inputs from PTI and ANI

Tiger Shroff’s mother summoned in CDR case

The arrest of lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui has made skeletons tumble out of the call data record (CDR) closet investigated by the Thane Crime Branch. After Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the cops will now issue summons to actor Tiger Shroff’s mother Ayesha Shroff, who is said to have got CDR against actor Sahil Khan.On late evening of March 20, the Thane Crime Branch decided to summon Ayesha Shroff, wife of actor Jackie Shroff and mother of actor Tiger Shroff in the CDR (call data record) case. “During the investigation we learned that Ayesha had provided CDRs of her then business partner and actor Sahil Khan to Rizwan Siddiqui,” said DCP Abhishek Trimukhe, Zone 1, Thane. In 2014, Ayesha had filed a case of cheating against Sahil Khan at Bandra Police Station that he cheated her of Rs 5 crores, which was given by her for their business venture. “Rizwan Siddiqui was her advocate and she gave him the CDR to strengthen her case against CDR. We want to know from where did she obtained the CDR and, hence, will summon her tomorrow(sic),” said Trimukhe.Though Siddiqui claimed during the investigation that he was in touch with Globe Detective Agency’s Prashant Palekar to get CDR of actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife, the cops think he is quite seasoned in obtaining CDRs for his clients. On March 19, telugu actress Akruti Nagpal gave her statement to Thane Police that Rizwan had got CDR details of her to help her husband Anil Mistry in their divorce case.

Pay Rs 50,000 to personally greet Mayawati on her birthday

Want to extend personal birthday wishes to BSP supremo Mayawati on her 62nd birthday on January 15? You can do so by paying Rs 50,000. In fact, the cost of personal birthday wish has been reduced to half in view of dwindling stakes of the party following its crushing defeat in the last three elections in Uttar Pradesh.Earlier, the price tag was Rs 1 lakh. Last year, the birthday of the BSP supremo was a low-key affair due to the enforcement of model code of conduct for 2017 Assembly polls. But after tasting a little success in recently-concluded urban local bodies’ polls, the party has decided to celebrate her 62nd birthday on January 15 again as ‘arthik sahyog diwas’ (monetary support day).Ever since Mayawati ascended to power in Uttar Pradesh in 1995 becoming the state Chief Minister for the first time, she has been accused of using her birthday celebrations to raise funds for the party as well as add to her personal wealth. Besides receiving glittering gold, diamond-studded sets as gifts and Rs 1000 currency note garlands on birthdays, she allegedly bought commercial properties in Connaught Place and palatial bungalows in Delhi and Lucknow’s posh Mall Avenue and Cantonment from the money raised on her birthdays. From Rs 11 crores in 2004, her wealth has gone up to Rs 112 crores in 2012, more than 100 per cent in just 8 years. Wealth of her brother Anand Kumar, a clerk, is also estimated at more Rs 1300 crore. He is now party Vice-President.A senior party leader told DNA that all the party sitting and former MPs, legislators, zonal coordinators, district presidents and other functionaries have been directed to bring minimum financial support of Rs 50,000 from at least 500 supporters each to fill the party coffers. Each BSP leader has been given a target to collect Rs 25 lakh for party fund on behenji’s birthday. The target is to raise Rs 75 to 100 crore on her 62nd birthday into the party fund.”The BSP is out of power since 2012 and funds are desperately needed to resurrect the party against communal forces. Her birthday would be celebrated as aarthik sahyog diwas to raise much-needed funds for the party for the Lok Sabha 2019 polls and welfare of dalits,” said a senior BSP leader requesting anonymity. The senior leader admitted that funds collection in the last five years have come down drastically due to party continuously losing ground in subsequent Assembly and Lok Sabha polls since 2012. “But party has covered some of the lost ground in urban local bodies’ polls and people, particularly dalits, have reposed faith in BSP’s policies and its fight against the BJP,” he said.Once her trusted confidante, former Finance Minister KK Gautam alleged that Mayawati puts cost to each and every activity in the BSP, be it her birthday, ticket distribution, rallies or appointments of functionaries on party posts. “It was due to her greediness, Manyawar Kanshi Ram’s mission for the dalit samaj got a setback and dalits weaned away from the BSP. There is not a single associate of Kanshi Ram left in the party which has become personal fiefdom of Mayawati, her brother Anand Kumar and Satish Mishra,” he said.Last year, expelled former BSP Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui had released many tapes in which Mayawati had openly demanded money from him for the party fund. “The party is on the brink of losing its political significance but she is out to celebrate her birthday again as arthik sahyog diwas to amass more personal wealth,” alleged Siddiqui.FUND-RAISEREach BSP leader has been given a target to collect Rs 25 lakh for party fund on behenji’s birthday. The target is to raise Rs 75 to 100 crore on her 62nd birthday into the party fund.

Remarks against minor girl: UP govt gives permission to prosecute BSP state president

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has allowed permission to police to prosecute former BSP minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui, BSP State President Ram Achal Rajbhar and two others in connection with a 2016 case for making derogatory remarks against minor daughter of BJP leader Swati Singh (now a minister in Yogi Adityanth cabinet).A home department official claimed that the state government has given permission to the Hazratganj Police to prosecute Naseemuddin Siddique, Ram Acahal Rajbhar and two others under Section 120-B of the IPC and POCSO Act.A case was lodged against several BSP leaders, including the two former ministers, at the Hazratganj Police on July 22 2016 when they had made derogatory remarks against the minor daughter of Swati Singh during a protest rally in Lucknow. The rally was organised to protest against remarks against BSP supremo Mayawati by Swati Singh’s husband BJP State Vice-Pesident Daya Shanker Singh, who was expelled by the BJP and later inducted back in the party. The Hazratganj Police had lodged a case against BSP leaders following protest by Swati Singh and BJP leaders. During the course of investigation, charges against Naseemuddin Siddiqui, who was expelled by the BSP, Ram Achal Rajbhar and two others were found were true and the police had sought permission from the state government for their prosecution. The permission was granted on Thursday late evening. The state Home department has directed the Hazratganj Police to prosecute them under Sections 120-B and POCSO Act. After the permission, the police is likely to file another chargesheet against the BSP leaders.

215 Haj pilgrims stranded at Ahmedabad airport for over 18 hours

Around 215 Haj pilgrims were stranded for more than 18 hours at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday, after two Bhopal- and Indore-bound Air India flights got delayed, the passengers said.”We had to stay at Ahmedabad airport for more than 18 hours on Thursday as two Air India flights got delayed without any prior information,” alleged NS Khan, a Haj pilgrim from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.Khan said that the pilgrims had reached here at 3.30 AM today, and since then the Air India flight, which was scheduled at 8.30 AM to Bhopal, got delayed.”We had several aged passengers, who had checked-in during the morning. Our boarding passes were also issued, but the flights were not there,” said Khan, adding that they were not even allowed to go outside the airport to have food.”We were not even provided food until 5 PM. What they provided later was low quality food in the evening. But since then, we were stranded there. Later, an Air India official told us that they would arrange some flight to Bhopal at 10 PM,” Khan alleged. The Haj pilgrims, including 130 Indore-bound passengers and other 85 pilgrims from Bhopal had arrived at the city airport at 3.30 AM today from Madina by Saudi Airways flight number 5018, an airport official said.”We arrived at the city airport at 3.30 AM today. However, the Air India flight to Bhopal got delayed and we had to stay here for more than 18 hours,” alleged Zakir Siddiqui, another Haj pilgrim from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. Siddiqui said that there were several aged people including women who waited for a long time.An Air India spokesperson said that some 450 passengers had arrived from Saudi Arabia and around 250 were flown to their destination by an aircraft of a private airlines. The plane was supposed to return to Ahmedabad and carry the rest of the passengers to Bhopal and Indore, but it did not returned, the official said, adding now Air India has made arrangement for another plane which would fly Bhopal-bound passengers and some Indore-bound too.”Rest of the Indore-bound passengers have been provided accommodation and they would be flown tomorrow,” the spokesperson added.
