A division bench of Calcutta HC on Monday sent back the plea over conducting Panchayat polls in West Bengal to single bench of the High Court, reports Zee 24 Ghanta. A division bench of justices Biswanath Sommader and Arindam Mukhopadhyay heard the matter on a plea by the TMC and Election Commission. Earlier a single bench of the HC extended stay on conducting Panchayat elections in the state. The division bench said that the litigation should be swiftly resolved and if necessary the HC will go for daily hearing. The opposition had went to HC asking for a stay in Panchayat election procedure alleging widespread violence by the ruling party. A single bench gave an interim stay and TMC and EC went to the division bench challenging the decision. During plea, justices asked lawyer from TMC, MP Kalyan Banerjee that why they have appealed to the division bench when the single bench is hearing the matter. They also said it is wrong to presume the decision of the single bench and asked TMC to go back to Justice Subrata Talukdar’s court.
