At least 13 people were killed and two more critically injured after their mini-bus crashed into a stationary truck in Byadagi Taluk of Karnataka’s Haveri district early on Friday.

According to a PTI report, citing officials, the victims, who were from Shivamogga, were returning from Savadatti in Belagavi district after a pilgrimage to pay obeisance to Goddess Yallamma.

Police said the injured have been admitted to a hospital and their condition is stated to be serious.

Accor to The Hindu report, the impact of the collision was so severe that the bodies were stuck in the mangled remains of the bus and the fire brigade and police personnel had a difficult time in extricating them.

Officials said the accident took place as the bus’s driver apparently feel asleep at the wheel.
