On Thursday, Delhi Police officials went to the home of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal to record her testimony regarding the alleged assault by a member of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s entourage.

The AAP MP has lodged a formal complaint regarding the alleged assault by Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Arvind Kejriwal.

“What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope appropriate action will be taken. The past days have been very difficult for me. I thank those who prayed. Those who tried to do character assassination, said that they were doing it at the behest of the other party, God bless them too,” Swati Maliwal said in a post on social media platform X.

Acting under the direction of a rank officer Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), the police squad spent over four hours obtaining information from the Rajya Sabha MP. According to reports, the Delhi police will register an FIR very soon.

Swati Maliwal has elborated the sequence of events in her compliant and has named Bibhav Kumar as the main accused in the case.

The Delhi Police likely to evoke Section 354 of the IPC – which concerns incidents regarding outraging the modesty of a women – in this case.

Meanwhile, pointing out that the Lok Sabha elections are currently being held, Swati Maliwal urged the BJP not to politicise the issue.

“Important elections are going on in the country, Swati Maliwal is not important, the issues of the country are important. There is a special request to the BJP not to do politics on this incident,” she said in her statement.
