Earlier, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) urged Rahul Gandhi to accept the position of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Although Gandhi deferred his decision on assuming this role, Sonia Gandhi was reaffirmed as the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party.
According to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, “Rahul Gandhi is the best person to lead this campaign inside the Parliament…the entire CWC feels that for a strong and vigilant Opposition, those committed to protecting the Constitution should be led by Rahul Gandhi.” He further stated that Rahul Gandhi respects the sentiments of the CWC members and will make a decision soon.
Following a comprehensive three-hour discussion on the party’s electoral performance and future strategies, the CWC outlined a plan of action. It proposed the formation of dedicated committees to assess the party’s performance across all states, including those under its governance.
The swearing-in ceremony, where PM Modi will begin his third consecutive term, is set to occur on Sunday. He will lead a coalition government after securing a majority in two consecutive tenures independently.
