Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, assured that stringent action in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak incident and said those behind it will not be “spared” by his government.
In his address in Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said: “I assure youth that the government will not spare those playing with their future.”
“I assure one thing, people who have defrauded our youth will not go unpunished,” the prime minister emphasised.
‘Actions being taken’
“One after the other, actions are being taken to hold accountable those who destroy the path to the future of this country’s youth,” PM Modi further said.
“We have brought in strict laws to deal with the issue and are strengthening the entire system,” the prime minister emphasised in his remarks.
The PM also assured that his government is working towards ensuring an atmosphere where students will not be worried about examinations, but rather just focus on their studies.
PM Modi slams Opposition of playing politics
The prime minister accused the opposition parties of playing politics with the future of the youth of the country.
“In her speech, the President talked about the paper leak. I expect the entire house to rise above politics and discuss the issue. But unfortunately, the issue, which is about the future of the country, is being politicised by them. What can be more unfortunate than this?” PM Modi said in his reply to the Motion of Thanks on President’s address in Rajya Sabha.
‘Necessary steps being taken’
In his address in Lok Sabha on Tuesday (June 2), PM Modi said that the government is working on a war footing to stop incidents of paper leaks.
He also told the Lower House that those playing with the future of youngsters will not be spared.
“Those who played with the future of students will not be spared. Arrests have been made from across the country in connection with NEET,” the prime minister said.
He further said that the Central government has already instituted a stringent law (to prevent paper leaks). “Necessary steps are being taken to strengthen the examination system,” he added.
The paper leak case is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Earlier this week, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi had written a letter to PM Modi requesting for a debate on NEET in parliament. Gandhi called the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak a “betrayal of a lifetime dream” of many students.
Gandhi, in his letter, claimed that a parliamentary debate would be a “first step towards rebuilding and restoring” the faith of the students.
Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed multiple disruptions as the INDIA bloc continued uproar, demanding for an immediate discussion on NEET paper leak.
The NEET, an entrance examination for admission in medical colleges across India, has been marred by allegations of irregularities, including paper leaks, prompting protests.
The head of the National Testing Agency (NTA), that conducts NEET, has been removed.
