One soldier, who sustained injuries in a gunfight with terrorists in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, succumbed on Wednesday. Meanwhile, one terrorist has been eliminated by security forces during the joint anti-terror operation in the Lolab area of the district.
The India Army said that the terrorist was gunned down in an overnight encounter in Kupwara district.
The joint search operation by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police began soon after specific inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in general area Kowut, Kupwara, was received, the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
It further informed that suspicious movement was noticed on Tuesday (July 23) and the suspects were challenged by vigilant troops. “In response, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, leading to a gunbattle,” the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said.
The NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer), who was injured in the gun battle, succumbed on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a soldier of the Indian Army, Lance Naik Subhash Chander laid down his life in the line of duty in Battal area of KG sector in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district where an infiltration bid was foiled.
Lance Naik Subhash Chander was injured in the gunfight and he too later succumbed to his injuries.
The encounter was underway at the time of filing this news report.
Meanwhile, with the rising recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir over the recent past, the Indian Army has deployed over 4,000 soldiers including the elite Para Commandos and those trained in mountain warfare have been deployed by the Indian Army in the hilly areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Reasi and Kathua districts.
