On the 25th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked Pakistan and said the country has failed in all its nefarious attempts in the past, but has not learned anything from its history and is carrying out proxy war.”

“I want to tell these patrons of terrorism that their nefarious intentions will never succeed. Our soldiers will crush terrorism with full force and the enemy will be given a befitting reply…”

The Prime Minister further said: “In Kargil, we not only won the war, we also gave a wonderful demonstration of ‘Truth, Restraint and Strength.”

‘India will defeat every challenge that comes in way of development’

The Prime Minister further said, “Be it Ladakh or Jammu and Kashmir, India will defeat every challenge that comes in the way of development.”

“In a few days, on August 5, it will be five years since Article 370 was abolished. Jammu and Kashmir is talking about a new future, talking about big dreams… Along with infrastructure development, the tourism sector is also growing rapidly in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. After decades, a cinema hall has opened in Kashmir. After three-and-a-half decades, Tazia procession has been taken out in Srinagar for the first time. Our heaven on earth is rapidly moving towards peace and harmony,” he further said.

‘Sacrifices made for nation are immortal’

Speaking at Kargil Vijay Diwas Shradhanjali Samaroh in Dras, Ladakh, PM Modi said: ” Kargil Vijay Diwas tells us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal.”

He further said that the country will always be indebted to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army.

“This country is grateful to them. It is my good fortune that during the Kargil war, I was amongst our soldiers as a common countryman,” the PM said.

PM Modi on Agnipath Scheme

Prime Minister Modi said that the Agnipath Scheme is an example of the necessary reforms done by the Army.

“For decades, there have been discussions on making the armed forces young, from Parliament to various committees. The average age of Indian soldiers being higher than the global average has been raising concerns. Therefore, this topic was raised in many committees for years. But the will to solve this challenge related to the country’s security was not shown earlier. The country has addressed this concern through the Agnipath scheme,” he said.

Slamming the Opposition, PM Modi said, “Agnipath aims to make the forces young… The aim of Agnipath is to keep the armies continuously fit for war. Unfortunately, some people have made such a sensitive topic related to national security a subject of politics.”

“Some people are doing politics of lies in their personal interest even on this reform of the army. These are the same people who weakened our forces by running scams worth thousands of crores in the forces,” he said.

Intensifying his attack on the Opposition, PM Modi said: “The history of those who are misleading the youth of the country shows that they do not care about the soldiers. These are the same people who lied about One Rank One Pension. It is our government which implemented One Rank One Pension, gave more than Rs 1.25 lakh crore to ex-servicemen. These are the same people who did not build a war memorial…These are the same people who did not provide adequate bulletproof jackets to our soldiers deployed on the border…”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with the families of the heroes of Kargil War.

PM Modi also virtually carried out the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel project.

The Shinkun La Tunnel Project consists of a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel which will be constructed at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road to provide all-weather connectivity to Leh. Once completed, it will be the highest tunnel in the world.

Soon after reaching Ladakh on Friday morning, PM Modi Modi paid tributes to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War at Kargil War Memorial in Dras on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The Prime Minister laid wreath at the Kargil War Memorial as he paid homage to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in the Kargil war.

The Kargil War was launched in response to the infiltration of Pakistani soldiers and terrorists into the Kargil sector of Ladakh, where they had occupied strategic positions. It ended on July 26, 1999.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually on this day to commemorate India’s victory against Pakistan at Kargil district in Ladakh.

During the Kargil War, Indian forces successfully reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil that had been infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.

The Pakistani army had initially denied allegations about its involvement in the war. It had claimed that it was caused by the Kashmiri terrorists. However, documents left behind by casualties and testimony of POWs contradicted the claims.

Later, the then Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Staff Pervez Musharraf’s Pakistan Army Chief noted the involvement of the Pakistani paramilitary forces. These forces were led by General Ashraf Rashid.
