Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal-United (JDU) Chief Nitish Kumar responded with “folded hands” to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s “door open” remark.
Fueling the speculations of another alliance between the two veteran leaders of Bihar, Yadav earlier said that his doors are open for Kumar. “Our doors are open for Nitish Kumar. He should also unbolt his gates. This would facilitate movement of people from both sides”, said the RJD Chief suring an interview.
Reacting to the same, Kumar smiled, folded his hands, and told reporters, “Kya bol rahe hain”? (What are you saying). However, he didn’t elaborate his remark further.

Notably, Lalu Yadav’s overture to Nitish Kumar follows a history of turbulent alliances, given the latter has switched sides between the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan and BJP-led NDA alliances multiple times.
CM Kumar has aligned with the RJD-led alliance twice in the last decade before jumping ship to the NDA in 2024 again.
Pertinent to note that the speculations were triggered after Union Home Minister Amit Shah, when asked about the Chief Ministerial face in next Bihar assembly polls in 2025, stated that “it will be decided after the elections”. As per media reports, Shah’s remarks angered the JDU that has repeatedly emphasised that the polls will be fought in the name of present CM Nitish Kumar.
