Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA candidate from Delhi’s Kalkaji, Ramesh Bidhuri, apologized over his controversial remarks about Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi following the outrage by the grand old party.

In a conversation with news agency ANI, Bidhuri stated, “Such statements have been made before. I have said that in the context of what Lalu Yadav had said. Congress remained silent on that even when he (Lalu Yadav) was a minister in their govt. If anyone is hurt by my remark, I express regret over it and I take my words back”.

Notably, the remarks came to light after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh shared a clip from Bidhuri’s speech, in which, he remarked that the BJP would make all the roads in Kalkaji as amooth as “Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks”, if voted to power.

“Lalu said that in Bihar, he would make the roads as smooth as Hema Malini’s cheeks. Lalu lied; he couldn’t do it. But I assure you, just like we improved the roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will definitely make all the roads in Kalkaji as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks”, Bidhuri said while addressing a public rally in Delhi’s Kalkaji, where he has been fielded from.

Following this, the Congress slammed the BJP and demanded an apology from Ramesh Bidhuri as well as the party’s top leadership.

Expressing disgust on ‘X’, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, “Ramesh Bidhuri’s statement regarding Priyanka Gandhi is not only shameful but also shows his disgusting mentality towards women. But what else can be expected from a man who used foul language against his fellow MP in the House and did not receive any punishment? This is the real face of the BJP”.

“Not only should Ramesh Bidhuri, but also the BJP’s top leadership should apologise with folded hands. Because this matter not only pertains to Priyankaji’s humiliation, but also this is about the women of the country”, she added.

Pertinent to note that Ramesh Bidhuri, a former BJP MP, has been fielded by the party from the Kalkaji constituency against Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi.
