With the BJP all set to release a ‘White Paper’ highlighting the achievements of the Modi government in the last 10 years, Congress on Thursday issued a black paper noting the current government’s failure.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge released a ‘Black Paper’ titled 10 Saal Anyay Kaal at a press conference in New Delhi.

Congress’ move comes hours ahead of BJP’s plan to release a ‘White Paper’ on the extended session of the Parliament on 8 February.

What does the ‘Black Paper’ say?

Congress’ ‘Black Paper’ details the rise of unemployment, farmers’ distress and price hikes.

“We are raising the main issue of unemployment, which the BJP never talks about…There is discrimination being done with non-BJP states like Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana,” Kharge said.

He added, “There is a danger to democracy in the country…In the last 10 years, 411 MLAs were taken on by the BJP. They toppled so many Congress governments. They are putting an end to democracy.”

Kharge also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for invoking former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi during his speech at the Parliament earlier this week.

“It was Modi’s guarantee to provide 2 crore jobs and ensure MSP to farmers and now the prime minister should say he could not do it but instead he has come up with new guarantees,” he said.

BJP reacts to ‘Black Paper’

PM Modi, during his reply to the Motion of Thanks in Rajya Sabha, took a jibe at Congress after it released the ‘Black Paper.’

He said, “Nazar na lage isliye Kharge kala paper lekar aaye hain…desh ko nazar na lage to kale teeke ke liye congress ka aabhar”

Meanwhile, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, “While Modi’s guarantees have passed, Congress’ guarantees in every state are failing…Congress is restless to see how Modi ji gave a corruption-free government.”

What is a ‘White Paper’?

The government on Wednesday extended the Parliament session by a day to release a ‘white paper’ highlighting the growth of India’s economy from 2014 to 2024.

It is important to note that this is the Parliament’s last session before Lok Sabha elections commence.

“White paper was part of the interim budget presented by our Finance Minister. The economic situation that Congress had put India through in 2014, needs to be mentioned… The subject of the White Paper will be in discussion today,” BJP MP Arjun Ram Meghwal said.
