While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kept the bulk of berths in the Union Council of Ministers with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the partners in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have also key portfolios.

As the single-largest party and the party of the prime minister, Modi has kept the ‘Big 4’ portfolios of Home, Defence, Finance, and External Affairs with the BJP and has retained the respective ministers from the previous government. Similarly, most of the high-profile portfolios are with the BJP, such as Agriculture, Health, Education, Railways, IT, etc.

The other partners of the NDA have, however, also been allocated key portfolios. While some of them are veterans like HD Kumaraswami of Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) and Jitan Ram Manjhi of Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM), there are young faces too like Chirag Paswan of Lok Janshakti Party-Ramvilas (LJP-R) and Jayant Singh of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

Here are the six key portfolios allocated to BJP’s partners in the NDA.
