Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on Thursday (December 26).
According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the 92-year-old was admitted to the emergency department of the hospital.
The former Prime Minister is facing “extreme breathlessness” and has been shifted to the ICU, according to a report by News18 that cited Singh’s office.
The security around AIIMS has been beefed up.
In April this year, Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha, having served in the Indian Parliament for 33 years. His last speech in the Upper House was in November 2019, when he raised the issue of foreigners being held at a detention centre in Silchar, Assam.
He has not been keeping well for a while and has stayed away from public appearances. Singh had had a 14-hour-long beating heart coronary by-pass surgery in 2009. In more recent years, he has faced mobility issues, and has been spotted in a wheelchair.
