This Indian billionaire overcame adversity in his early years to write a remarkable success story that included American tech titans Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google. He is a visionary who, when it was just a little company operating out of a small garage, predicted the big win years ahead of most people.

Kavitark Ram Shriram faced a setback when he was just three years old, and his father passed away. It brought financial difficulties to the family, and his admission to school became a challenge. He rose above them to eventually earn a BS degree from Madras University. The first turning point came with the opportunity to study MBA in the United States.

He then went on to build a successful executive career where he worked closely with Jeff Bezos during the initial phase of his e-commerce giant. Shriram-led online firm Junglee was acquired by Amazon for $185 million in 1998.

Being able to pursue an MBA in the US was the first game-changing event. Afterwards, he went on to have a prosperous executive career, working closely with Jeff Bezos at the start of his massive e-commerce business. Amazon paid $185 million to purchase the internet business Junglee, which was led by Shriram, in 1998.

His decision to start cautiously looking for possible investments in ideas in 2000 marked the second turning point. He started the Sherpalo Ventures venture capital company. Investing half a million dollars, Shriram supported Google from the beginning. With a market valuation of more than Rs 138 lakh crore, the currently-named Alphabet is among the richest corporations in the world.

Shriram remains a member of the Alphabet board despite having sold off the majority of his stake. 22,444 crore rupees is his net worth, as reported by Forbes. He has also made significant investments in businesses like InMobi, Gusto, and Paperless Post. In 2014, Stanford University received a $61 million donation from the billionaire and his spouse.
