Commenting on reports of him being elevated to the post of deputy chief minister, Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said that all state government ministers are working as deputies to his father MK Stalin.
“There are many news reports on the Deputy Chief Minister elevation. I have said to the press before that all ministers in our government are Deputy Chief Ministers,” Udhayanidhi said.
Earlier this week, sources said that the elevation could occur as soon as next month before MK Stalin departs for the US on August 22.
‘My favourite post is…’
Udhayanidhi, the youth affairs and sports minister of Tamil Nadu, said that he remains committed to the responsibility bestowed upon him.
“Whatever post, according to me, the youth wing secretary post is my favourite,” the actor-turned-politician said.
The MLA from the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency was sworn in as a minister in the cabinet in December 2022.
Regarding the upcoming assembly elections in the state, Udhayanidhi said, “The 2026 election is our target where we should work and achieve a victory like in the last elections. Whatever alliance comes, our leader will win, and it’s our CM MK Stalin who will take charge as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu again. It’s our DMK alliance that is going to win the 2026 assembly elections.”
Udhayanidhi to be Dy CM soon?
Reports on his promotion come at a time when a reshuffle within the cabinet is expected.
According to a report by Indian Express, the motive behind Udhayanidhi’s elevation is to “unburden” the Tamil Nadu CM and facilitate smoother governance in the state.
“This move will help groom Udhayanidhi with significant responsibilities,” a senior leader told the news outlet.
