One terrorist has been gunned down by security forces in Jammu’s Kathua district on Tuesday.
A massive search operation has been conducted to hunt for others who reportedly fled into nearby forests after open firing near Saida village in Hiranagar area of ??Kathua district.
“Gunshots reportedly heard by villagers in Hiranagar area of Kathua. Police rush to the spot after being informed by villagers,” ANI quoted J&K Police as saying.
Around 8:30 pm on Tuesday, June 11 two terrorists entered into the village and asked for water from some houses… As soon as the information was received, the teams of SHO and SDO reached the spot, J&K ADGP Anant Jain said.
“One of the terrorists was killed in the exchange of fire. The search operation to nab the second terrorist is underway. There are unconfirmed rumours that many people are injured and three are dead. But only one civilian was injured, other than this all information regarding hostages being held and death, are rumours… There is an exchange of fire going on between the Indian Army and terrorists in the Chattergala,” he further said.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said he is in “continuous online contact with DC Kathua Rakesh Minhas in the wake of terrorist attack on a house in village Saida in Hiranagar sector close to the International Border.”
“I am also in touch with SSP Kathua Anayat Ali Choudhary who is on the spot. The owner of the house that was attacked is also in touch on mobile phone. Joint police and para military operation is going on,” he further said.
“One terrorist neutralised so far. I and my office are in constant touch and keeping a close watch on the developments,” the minister added.
The suspected terror attack in Kathua comes just two days after the Reasi incident in which at least 10 pilgrims, including a child, were killed and several others were injured when terrorists opened fire on a 53-seater bus travelling from the Shiv Khori cave shrine to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu on June 9.
More details are awaited.
