Many farmers in India are taking advantage of the PM Kisan scheme which began as a system where farmers enrolled on basis of self-certification. Some ineligible farmers are enrolling themselves in the scheme against whom the government has started taking action.

The government put in place various technological requirements like integrating with PFMS, UIDAI, and the Income Tax Department. Payment through Aadhaar and e-KYC as well and other requirements also became mandatory. Those who did not fulfill these requirements were barred from being beneficiaries.

“Income tax payers, high-income groups, and government employees have been marked as ineligible farmers and the state governments have started the process of taking back money from them.” So far, a total of Rs 335 crore has been recovered across the country from the beneficiaries who were not eligible for the scheme,” read a PIB release dated 3 December 2024.
