Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Thursday, with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership high on agenda.
Chinh is on a state visit to India from July 30 to August 1.
The two leaders will hold discussions to further energise the India-Vietnam ties, including the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Taking India-Vietnam partnership to new heights! PM @narendramodi extended a warm welcome to PM Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam at Hyderabad House. Substantive discussions to further energise the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the agenda.”
Before the bilateral meeting, Chinh visited Rajghat and paid tribute by laying floral wreaths at the memorial site where Mahatma Gandhi was laid to rest as ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’, a prayer dear to the Mahatma, was being played in the background.
Earlier in the day, Chinh was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan where he was received by PM Modi with a warm hug. He then inspected a Guard of Honour by the combined defence services.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal were also present on the occasion.
On Wednesday, Jaishankar had called on Chinh. During the meeting, the Vietnamese PM expressed gratitude and thanked India for the warm reception.
“I want to thank you for your time, seeing me this afternoon. I want to thank you for your efforts in arranging my visit to India with such short notice and a very tight schedule. I would like to thank the two foreign ministries for making the best preparations for this visit,” Pham Minh Chinh said.
