As CBI unravels the many crimes of Sandip Ghosh, the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College has also been in trouble with the law in Hong Kong.
At the centre of the Kolkata rape and murder case, Ghosh’s misdemeanor find traces in China as he faced a molestation case during his brief stay in Hong Kong.
Ghosh is currently in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation in a corruption case during his tenure at RG Kar.
What happened in Hong Kong?
According to a report by the South China Morning Post, Ghosh’s name matches with a 2017 sexual assault case where a male nurse in Hong Kong’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital alleged that he (Ghosh) molested him.
The former principal of RG Kar subsequently underwent a trial owing to which his two-month clinical exchange programme was cancelled. So, Ghosh eventually ended up living in Hong Kong for only a few days.
The SCMP report further says that Ghosh was acquitted on one count of indecent assault in the Hong Kong molestation case.
During the trial, the male nurse alleged that the doctor “patted his buttocks two to three times and tried to touch his genitals in the changing room”. Meanwhile, Ghosh’s defence was that he was trying to “pull on the student’s arm to help fix his dislocated shoulder.”
Ghosh’s lawyer also suggested that the nurse mistook him for someone else due to his strong accent, a claim rejected by the male nurse.
ED attaches illegal property case with Ghosh
The Enforcement Directorate Tuesday claimed that the wife of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, purchased two immovable assets without “proper approval” from West Bengal government authorities.
The federal agency alleged in a statement that it has “found” documents related to about half-a-dozen houses, flats and a farmhouse owned by the doctor couple during searches conducted against them and their “close relatives” on September 6 at seven locations in Kolkata.
Sandip Ghosh has been booked by the ED in an alleged financial irregularities linked money laundering case after taking cognisance of a CBI FIR. The ex-principal came under the scanner following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at the hospital on August 9.
