The Union Budget will be presented in the Lok Sabha on July 23, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Saturday.
The Budget session will begin on July 22 and go on till August 12.
An interim budget was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in February under the previous regime. The full budget will be presented by Sitharaman in the next few weeks.
Who will present the budget?
Sitharaman, who was reinstated as the Finance Minister in Modi 3.0 Cabinet, will present the Union Budget 2024.
What to expect?
A report by Reuters last month quoted two government sources as saying that the Modi government is mulling over lowering tax rates for specific groups of individuals. If so, the move will help boost consumption in India, Asia’s third-largest economy.
Meanwhile, PM Modi said that the National Democratic Alliance will centre its policies around middle class and household savings, soon after the alliance won the Lok Sabha elections in June.
Modi emphasised the role played by the middle class was exceptional and that they will be the “driving force of Bharat’s growth story”.
“We will continue to ensure the welfare of our people, and will continue to deliver ‘quality of life’ to all. “In the next 10 years, good governance, development, quality of life and my determination is to reduce government interference in people’s life,” the leader said.
