Delhi Chief Minister and the supremo of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, announced that he is going to resign from the chief ministerial post in two days. The announcement came days after he was released on bail from Tihar jail on Friday night.

On Sunday, Kejriwal arrived at the party office in Delhi, where he insisted that he would not sit on the CM chair until the people gave their verdict. “I am going to resign from the CM position after two days. I will not sit on the CM chair until the people give their verdict… I will go to every house and street and not sit on the CM chair till I get a verdict from the people,” the AAP National Convenor told the gathering. With this announcement, Kejriwal will be eyeing the Delhi polls, which are scheduled next year.

A day after he was released from Tihar jail, Kejriwal held a meeting with senior party leaders. In the Saturday meeting, discussions were held on various issues, including assembly polls in Haryana and party organisations in the national capital. AAP is contesting in all 90 seats in Haryana.

Kejriwal saga

The development comes ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, where AAP is contesting solo. Kejriwal is expected to hold campaign rallies in the state.

Kejriwal, earlier this week, was released from jail, six months after he was arrested in the alleged Excise Policy scam.

The Supreme Court, however, said that the AAP leader would not be able to visit the Delhi Secretariat or sign government files.

Since the top court’s judgment, the BJP has been calling for Kejriwal’s resignation.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party said that the chief minister would continue working from home and sign files after the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.

While lauding the Chief Minister’s contribution, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann told ANI that Kejriwal “kept the party united even from the jail. And the workers kept it united from the outside. If any other party had faced so many problems, it would have been broken.”
