In Bangalore, a woman in her early fifties reportedly stabbed her 56-year-old husband following a domestic discord in which the husband allegedly trashed her for not keeping the house clean.

According to the husband Narendra (name changed), Mamta (name changed) attacked him on Saturday afternoon after he decided not to take her to Singapore, citing dissatisfaction with her household management.

Narendra, a Singapore citizen originally from Tamil Nadu, filed a complaint with the police, accusing Mamta of wielding a kitchen knife during their argument. Mamta was subsequently arrested under IPC Section 324 for voluntarily causing harm with dangerous weapons and was later released on station bail.

The police report indicates Mamta’s distress over her husband’s decision to take their 20-year-old son, Sumit, with him to Singapore, leaving her behind in Bengaluru.

Narendra, employed by an MNC, has been residing in Singapore for 25 years. He married Mamta in 2002, and the couple shares a 20-year-old son, Sumit, who has been living in Bengaluru.

The family would occasionally visit Singapore, with Narendra making trips to Bengaluru several times a year.

Last September, Narendra took Mamta and Sumit to Singapore to have the family permanently reside there.

Tensions arose as Narendra claimed Mamta was not fulfilling her household responsibilities adequately, leading to frequent arguments.

On January 19, Narendra informed Mamta that he was not taking her to Singapore, triggering a heated dispute.

“I was sleeping in the bedroom around 2.30pm post lunch. Mamta attacked me with a knife on my head and hand. When I tried to retort, she stabbed me in the back. Later, she brought water laced with chilli powder and threw it on my face,” Narendra told TOI.

Narendra and Naveen pushed Mamta out of the bedroom and locked themselves inside. They called police helpline 112 and informed them about the incident.

Police rushed to the house and convinced Mamta to open the door. Later, they took Narendra to a nearby hospital and detained Mamta. Narendra got around 14 stitches for the injuries.

“The woman was kept in an NGO that night. She, however, wasn’t ready to eat till Naveen came back to her. We forcibly made her have dinner. It appears Mamta was disturbed as Narendra wanted to take Naveen along with him while leaving her behind. So, she attacked him,” a senior police officer said.

“We suspect Narendra doesn’t want to stay with Mamta as he thinks she lacks his modern outlook,” the officer added. Narendra and Naveen said they did not like how Mamta conducted herself. The father and son are staying in a hotel.
