In what can be described as an ironic turn of events, a NEET aspirant from Samastipur, Anurag Yadav, received the leaked question paper, memorised the answers beforehand, appeared for the exam and yet managed to score only 185 out of 720.
The NEET controversy has prompted students from across the country to take to the streets against irregularities in the examination process. The issue has now fallen under the radar of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while the central government has cancelled NEET-UG.
The Supreme Court has also swung into action. Last week, the apex court issued a notice to the National Test Agency (NTA) seeking answers and slamming the agency over the allegations.
Meanwhile, four people have been arrested in Bihar for leaking the question papers and Anurag Yadav is one of them. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s ally has also been accused of circulating the papers a day before the NEET-UG exams on May 5.
Leaked paper didn’t prove helpful?
Expecting that Yadav might have scored well during the exams is only normal. But, his scorecard says otherwise.
Yadav, 22, on Wednesday, confessed that he received the question paper a day prior to the exam from his uncle. “I was made to read and memorize it at night. When I went for the exam, I found the same questions which I had memorized correctly. After the exam, the police came and caught me, and I confessed my crime.”
But that didn’t help the aspirant. His scorecard shows that he got 185 out of 720 with a percentile of 54.84.

Biology: 51 per cent
Chemistry: 5 per cent
Yadav is not the only student who performed poorly in the exams despite having access to the question paper beforehand.
The other three people who were arrested by the police also scored similarly with one scoring 300 out of 720.
Four accused confess
The mastermind behind the NEET paper leak, Sikander Prasad Yadvendu – uncle of Anurag Yadav – in his confessional statement admitted to having arranged question papers for four exam aspirants to “prepare” them a day before the test and demanded Rs 40 lakh from each candidate.
According to sources in the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar police, Yadvendu’s confessional statement, recorded under Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) on May 5, also detailed his contacts with Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand, allegedly known for leaking prestigious exam papers such as NEET.
Yadvendu claimed that he demanded Rs 40 lakh from each aspirant, including his nephew Anurag Yadav, for providing the leaked question paper on May 4.
