Eight members of a family tried to end their lives in front of the Karnataka Assembly in Bengaluru on Wednesday. They attempted self-immolation to protest over the auctioning of their home by a bank to recover loan dues. They poured kerosene on themselves outside the Vidhan Soudha but were stopped by the cops. They were then taken into custody. The family members included women and children.

According to reports, the family had taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh from a co-operative bank in 2016 for ginger cultivation. But they suffered a huge loss. The family claimed that they have paid around Rs 96 lakh to the bank. But the bank staffers have been harassing them saying that most of this amount paid by them is interest and capital amount is still unpaid.
