In a shocking turn of events, a tempo traveller carrying around 26 passengers fell into a deep gorge on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, leading to the death of at least twelve people and fourteen critically injured on Saturday.
“The death toll in the accident in which a tempo traveller fell into a deep gorge near Rudraprayag has now risen to 10. Four seriously injured have been referred to a higher centre while 9 other injured are in the hospital where they are undergoing treatment,” says Karan Singh Nagnyal, IG Garhwal according to ANI.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed his grief over the tragic incident.
He tweeted, “Received very sad news of a tempo traveller accident in Rudraprayag district. Local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. The injured have been sent to the nearest medical center for treatment. The District Magistrate has been ordered to investigate the incident.
“I pray to God to grant the souls of the departed a place in His feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense pain. I pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he further wrote.
He also informed that the seriously injured passengers in the Rudraprayag road accident are being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh. Instructions have been given to the concerned officials for better treatment of the injured.
Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident. Taking to his official X handle, he said, “The road accident in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in all possible help to the victims: PM @narendramodi.”
