After “consuming” bananas, mangoes, sweets and taking tea with sugar in jail almost every day despite having Type II diabetes, Delhi Chief Minister has moved a petition in Rouse Avenue Court to provide insulin in prison.

The court will hear the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor petition at 2 pm on Friday.

On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) told Rouse Avenue Court that Kejriwal is “creating a ground for bail” by deliberately eating mangoes, aloo puri, banana and sweets to raise his blood sugar level.

The submission were made by before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja who was hearing Kejriwal’s application seeking permission to consult his regular doctor in jail through virtual conferencing.

Later on Thursday, AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi said ED’s claim that Kejriwal has been denied insulin by Tihar jail authorities.

She alleged that from the past few days, the Delhi chief minister’s sugar level is over 300 mg/dl, but jail authorities have denied him insulin. “There’s a conspiracy to kill Kejriwal by stopping his home cooked food supply,” she added.

Atishi also alleged that ED’s claim that Kejriwal was indulging in sweet food to spike his blood sugar level a lie.

“ED said Kejriwal takes sweets and sweet tea. But these are made of erythritol. The BJP people can google it. It is a low-calorie sweetener allowed for diabetics,” Atishi said at a press conference on Thursday.

“ED said Kejriwal has been eating bananas to increase his blood sugar level. All diabetic patients are advised to keep bananas and some chocolates for any emergency. Because if the sugar level of a diabetic patient dips very low, it is a threat to life. It was written in the court order that Kejriwal must have some kind of toffee or banana with him,” Atishi said.

Dismissing ED’s claim that the Delhi CM has been eating ‘aloo-puri every day’, Atishi said, “Kejriwal had aloo-puri only on the first day of Navratri as that is the custom. It is mentioned in the diet chart submitted to the court that he took aloo-puri only one day.”
