Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Saturday that Gadchiroli district will soon become India’s new ‘steel city.’ Speaking in the state assembly, Fadnavis shared plans to transform Gadchiroli into a hub of steel production while ensuring the region becomes Naxal-free within three years.

Gadchiroli, once known for its Naxal activities, is now on the path to development. The Chief Minister noted that significant progress has been made in curbing Naxalism, with many rebels either killed or surrendering. He revealed that 1,500 youth from the district, including 150 from Naxal families, have joined the police force. Fadnavis assured that Naxal recruitment has completely stopped in Maharashtra and expressed confidence that Naxalism in Gadchiroli will be eradicated soon.

Drawing parallels with Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, often referred to as India’s ‘steel city,’ Fadnavis emphasised Gadchiroli’s potential due to its rich mineral resources. Infrastructure projects like the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway will connect Gadchiroli with other major cities.

The CM also highlighted the Mahayuti government’s achievements, stating that after taking charge in 2022, they secured investments worth Rs 1.23 lakh crore for the Vidarbha region. He outlined plans for river-linking, irrigation, and industrial development in Vidarbha and Marathwada.

Fadnavis, who recently assumed office for the third time following the Mahayuti alliance’s electoral victory, reaffirmed his commitment to driving growth and creating opportunities across the state.
