At present, a heatwave is searing through North India, with maximum daytime temperatures above 47°C in multiple places. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red alert” for Delhi and portions of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh due to the persistently high temperatures.
For the next five days, the meteorological agency has forecast prolonged hot to severe heatwave conditions. According to reports, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan demonstrated the intense heat in Rajasthan by roasting papad. The same video went popular on social media and received a wide range of responses from online users.
“Temperature soars to 47°C in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The sand along the International Border feels like a furnace, but our troopers serving the motherland stand strong,” the video was shared on X with the caption.
In the 48-second clip, a BSF jawan can be seen wearing a cap, sunglasses, and a handkerchief over his face to protect himself from the intense heat. Holding his service gun in one hand, he carefully sets the papad in the hot sand and waits for it to cook. He smashes and cracks the papad towards the conclusion of the film to show that it has been cooked through in the sand.
