The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog, saying it is expected to engulf Delhi on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly clear sky during the day and moderate to dense fog in the morning for Tuesday. It said that the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 18 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The winter chill abated slightly in the national capital on Monday, with the minimum temperature climbing to 6.1 degrees Celsius from 4.8 degrees the previous day. The IMD said that the maximum temperature on the day was recorded at 17.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average.

Humidity levels oscillated between 55 per cent and 95 per cent on Monday. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 4 pm on Monday was 333, which falls in the “very poor” category. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor”, and 401 and 500 “severe”.
