Assembly elections in the heavily contested state of Haryana came to an end on Saturday. The polling process went on smoothly with no report of violence.
Voting took place across 90 assembly seats. Top leaders in the fray are Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and wrestler Vinesh Phogat, and JJP’s Dushyant Chautala.
In total, the elections were contested by 1,027 candidates.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has governed the state for two consecutive terms, is eyeing a win in the state for the third time. Congress, which chose not to contest the election in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party, is hoping to return to the state after 10 years. To reinforce its winning chance, the grand old party fielded key candidates including Vinesh Phogat from the Julana seat to garner the Jatt support.
The outcome of the polls and the fate of the candidates will be decided on October 8.
What does exit poll reveal?
Initial trends have given an edge to Congress in Haryana, predicting the party to win almost 60 constituencies.
According to Republic Matrize, Congress is expected to win 55-66 seats while the saffron party is expected to get 18-24 assembly constituencies.
Congress might win 44-54 seats, according to Dainik Bhaskar, while BJP can bag 19-29 seats.
Voter turnout
Haryana logged a voter turnout of 61.19 per cent. The highest turnout was recorded in Yamunanagar while Gurgaon registered the lowest percentage of turnout.
