A year after attacks marred the religious procession and led to communal violence, the Haryana government has ordered the suspension of internet and bulk SMS in Nuh in the wake of Monday’s ‘Braj Mandal Yatra’.

The 24-hour-long suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh will come into effect on 6 pm on Sunday, according to PTI.

The Haryana government has issued the order as a precautionary step to maintain law and order.

Last year, the yatra, which is a Hindu religious procession, came under attack. At least four people, including two Home Guards personnel, were killed in the attack. Then, the violence spread to nearby Gurgaon as well where a mosque was attacked a fifth death was also reported.

More than 50 people were injured in the violence that had enveloped the region in high tension for several days. Curfew was imposed in Nuh and additional forces were rushed to the district. The situation remained tense for several days.

After the order was issued, NDTV reported that security arrangements have been beefed up in an around Nuh and surveillance arrangements have been enhanced in the form of deployment of drones and setting up of checkpoints in the region.

The report further said that the government has inputs that “anti-social elements” could attempt to disturb peace and harmony in the yatra tomorrow. It further said that more security personnel, including from the central armed police forces, have been deployed in the region.
