Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that he is committed to creating a new and wonderful picture of Jammu and Kashmir and announced that the Union Territory will soon get the status of statehood.

Addressing a public rally in Udhampur, PM Modi said “Modi thinks far ahead. So what has happened so far is just the trailer. I have to get busy in creating a new and wonderful picture of the new Jammu and Kashmir. The time is not far when Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir will get the status of statehood. You will be able to share your dreams with your MLA and your ministers…”

He also threw a challenge to any political party, especially the Congress, to announce that they will bring back Article 370.

“For the sake of power, they had built a wall of 370 in Jammu and Kashmir…Due to your blessings, Modi demolished the wall of Article 370. I have also buried the debris of that wall in the ground. I challenge any political party in India, especially Congress, to announce that they will bring back Article 370. This country won’t even look at them,” said the Prime Minister.

Attacking the Congress, National Conference and PDP, he said that no one has caused as much damage to Jammu and Kashmir as these family-run parties.

“Congress, National Conference, PDP and all other parties want to take Jammu and Kashmir back to those old days. No one has caused as much damage to Jammu and Kashmir as these family-run parties have done. Here political party means of the family, by the family and for the family…,” said PM Modi.

Reaching out to the voters, he said that the upcoming Lok Sabha election is not just to elect MPs but this is an election to form a strong government in the country.

“When the government is strong, it completes the works by challenging the challenges…,” PM said.

“I had told you to trust me and I will solve the problems of 60 years. I had guaranteed respect for the mothers and sisters here. I gave a guarantee that the poor would not have to worry about two meals a day. Today lakhs of families of Jammu and Kashmir have the guarantee of free ration for the next 5 years…,” added the Prime Minister.

PM Modi said that he had given a guarantee to the farmers and has fulfilled it also.

“Modi ki guarantee yani guarantee pura hone ki guarantee. You remember how the weak governments of Congress kept the Shahpurkandi Dam stalled for decades. The fields of the farmers of Jammu were dry and the villages were in darkness, but our water of Ravi was going to Pakistan. Modi had given a guarantee to the farmers and has fulfilled it also,” he said.

On Ram Mandi, PM Modi said that it was never an election issue for the BJP as claimed by the Congress.

“Congress says Ram Mandir is an election issue for BJP. I want to say that Ram Mandir was never an election issue, nor it will ever become an election issue. The struggle for Ram temple was going on even before the birth of the BJP… When foreign invaders destroyed our temples, the people of India fought to save their religious places. The leaders of Congress and its allies lived in big bungalows but when it came to changing the tent of Ram Lalla, they used to turn their backs…,” said the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, reacting to PM Modi’s remarks on Assembly elections, NC leader Omar Abdullah said that holding elections in J&K is now a compulsion for the Prime Minister as it’s the verdict of the Supreme Court.

“It is the verdict of the Supreme Court. It would have been a favour for us if he (PM Modi) had conducted elections before the verdict of SC. It is now a compulsion for him. It is the Supreme Court’s verdict to conduct elections in J&K before 30th September…As far as statehood is concerned, he could not explain to us till now why was Article 370 removed…,” said Abdullah.
