On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged state governments to fiercely compete for global investment as he addressed the nation from the Red Fort on India’s 78th Independence Day.

Modi highlighted the strong interest from global companies in investing in India, describing it as a “golden opportunity” for the country to become a global manufacturing hub. He urged state governments to craft policies that attract investment while maintaining high standards of governance and law enforcement.

Emphasising the need for innovation, Modi advocated for “Design In India” and “Design for the World” initiatives. He also called for Indian professionals to lead the burgeoning global gaming industry.

In his 11th Independence Day address, Modi aligned his vision with the Industry 4.0 revolution, focusing on comprehensive skill development across various sectors, from agriculture to sanitation. The ‘Skill India’ programme. he said, has sparked significant growth and momentum.

Modi praised the “Vocal for Local” mantra as central to India’s economic strategy and highlighted the “One District, One Product” initiative, which aims to enhance district-level pride and specialisation in unique products to boost exports. He also reiterated the country’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in the energy sector and addressing climate change challenges.
