An incident of gruesome violence came to fore from Jharkhand where a 25-year-old man, who works as a butcher, allegedly strangled his live-in partner to death and chopped her body into 50 pieces.

The accused, identified as Naresh Bhengra, committed the crime on November 8 in a forested area in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.

He was arrested after Jariagarh police station began investigation after they spotted a stray dog with a mutilated human hand on November 24, cops were reported as saying by PTI.

Naresh was in a live-in relationship with 24-year-old Gangi Kumari, both residents of Jordag village.

They moved to Tamil Nadu and were staying there for the past couple of years.A few days back, Naresh traveled to Jharkhand and got married to another woman in Khunti without telling Gangi.

After his marriage, he left his wife here and returned to Tamil Nadu and started living with Gangi.

However, on November 8, Naresh and Gangi came to Khunti and she forced him to take her to his village. Gangi also threatened him to return the money he owed her if he refuses to take her to his home.

Since Naresh did not want her to know about his marriage, he was in strong denial in taking her to his home.

Naresh, instead, took Gangi to a forest near his house at Jordag village in Jariagarh police station and strangled her with her dupatta. After killing her, he chopped her body into some 50 pieces and scattered them in places for animals to feast on them.

“The man took her to Khunti in an autorickshaw near his home and asked her to wait. He returned with sharp weapons and strangulated her with a dupatta after raping her. He then cut the body into 40 to 50 pieces and left for his home to live with his wife,” the PTI report quoted Inspector Ashok Singh, who investigated the case, as saying

“He admitted chopping the body parts of the woman into 40 to 50 pieces before leaving those in the forest for wild animals to feast on,” Singh said, adding that Naresh worked in a butcher shop in Tamil Nadu and was an expert in slicing chicken.

A bag was also found in the forest with Gangi’s belongings, including her Aadhaar card. The woman’s mother was called at the spot to identify her daughter’s belongings.

Police has also recovered a blood-stained sickle and a garden hoe.

The brutal crime in Jharkhand echoes the 2022 Shraddha Walker murder case. The 27-year-old girl was killed by her live-in partner Aaftab Amin Poonawalla whom she met on the Bumble app.

After killing Shraddha, Aaftab chopped her body into pieces and purchased a new 300-litre fridge to store them. He then disposed of them in the jungle in South Delhi’s Mehrauli over the next 18 days.
