The J&K High Court Bar Association’s (JKHCBA) Kashmir chapter has removed a constitutional paragraph advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir dispute.
The revised constitution prioritises promoting the legal profession’s rights and interests, as well as those of its members.
This amendment comes five years after the District Magistrate’s 2020 letter questioning a clause in the Bar’s original constitution, which aimed to resolve public issues, including the Kashmir dispute, according to media reports.
The District Magistrate had noted that this objective conflicted with the Indian Constitution, which considers J&K an integral part of the country.
