One terrorist has been gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kumpwara district. An Indian Army jawan was also injured in the exchange of fire.

“On 24 July, suspicious movement was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, in response to which terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing fire fight one terrorist has been eliminated and a NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) injured. Operation is in progress,” Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in a pots on X.

The Chinar Corps further informed that an NCO was injured during the joint operation which was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP) following specific input regarding presence of terrorists.

The anti-terrorism operation was launched on Tuesday (July 23) in Kupwara district’s Lolab area. The operation continued through the night with heavy exchange of fire between the security forces and heavily armed terrorists.

On Tuesday, a solider of the Indian Army was killed in action in Battal area of KG sector in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch District where the Army foiled an infiltration bid.

Lance Naik Subhash Chander was injured in the gunfight on Tuesday and later died from his injuries. His body has been handed over to the Army.

Meanwhile, officials said that a search operation has been launched in the area..

In the wake of the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has deployed over 4,000 soldiers including the elite Para Commandos and those trained in mountain warfare have been deployed by the Indian Army in the hilly areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Reasi and Kathua districts.
