Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita has been granted permission by the Tihar jail administration to meet her husband a day after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced that she would not be able to meet the Delhi chief minister on Monday.

Sunita Kejriwal on Monday will meet the AAP convenor, who is imprisoned in Tihar over the alleged Liquor Policy case, on Monday. She will be accompanied by Delhi cabinet minister Atishi.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will meet Kejriwal on Tuesday.

Why was Sunita Kejriwal denied permission?

As per jail rules, only two persons are allowed to meet a jailed person in a week and since Atishi had already been permitted to meet the chief minister on Monday and Mann being allowed to meet him on Tuesday, no other meeting could take place this week.

Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi had applied to meet Kejriwal on April 29 last week, while the Tihar administration received Sunita’s application earlier on the same day.

Denying AAP’s allegations, Tihar sources told the Times of India, “Sunita has been meeting Kejriwal, and there is no question of denying permission to her. We have to follow protocols, and preparations have already been made for Atishi’s meeting.”

On Sunday, a party functionary, however, said that both Sunita’s and Atishi’s names were sent to the Tihar administration on April 27 for a meeting on April 29.

The jail official also confirmed that while Atishi and Sunita’s applications were made on the same day, the former’s token number and formalities had been finalised while Sunita’s was given a later date to meet her husband.
