Advocate Ramen Roy defending Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a legal case in Bangladesh has been brutally attacked by “Islamists” leaving him in the ICU, alleged Iskcon Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das.

The report of attack on Chinmoy Das’s defending lawyer comes hours ahead of the expected hearing of his case on December 3.

Chinmoy Das, a prominent former leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) in Bangladesh, was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 on sedition charges by Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in the country. He was denied bail by a Dhaka court last week.

“Islamists ransacked his home and brutally attacked him, leaving him in the ICU, fighting for his life,” Radharamn Das said.

According to him, Roy’s sole “fault” was defending Chinmoy Das in court.

“Please pray for Advocate Ramen Roy. His only ‘fault’ was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court. Islamists ransacked his home and brutally attacked him, leaving him in the ICU, fighting for his life. #SaveBangladeshiHindus #FreeChinmoyKrishnaPrabhu,” Radharamn Das posted on X along with a picture of Roy in the ICU.

Talking to a Bengali news channel, Radharamn Das further said that the attack on advocate Roy “reflects the growing danger faced by those who defend the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh.”

Bangladesh has been witnessing increasing attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, under Yunus government who heads the interim government in India’s neighbouring country after the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in early August.

India has condemned Chinmoy Das’s arrest and urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and other minorities in the country.

Meanwhile, protest rallies are being carried out in West Bengal, Assam and other states that share a border with Bangladesh.

In Tripura’s capital Agartala, more than 50 protesters allegedly entered the premises of the Bangladeshi mission on Monday leading to panic among the officials and staff at the complex.

Also, hotels and restaurants in Tripura have decided not to accept any bookings from tourists from Bangladesh.
