Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to mark a historic moment today as he inaugurates the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the longest sea bridge in the country. Named the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri–Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, this impressive 21.8-kilometer-long structure has been realized at a staggering cost of over Rs 17,840 crore.

The MTHL, spanning the distance between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai (connecting Sewri and Nhava Sheva), is expected to revolutionize travel by reducing the current two-hour journey to a mere 15-20 minutes.

As part of his visit to Maharashtra, Prime Minister Modi will unveil projects exceeding Rs 30,500 crore in value. Among the key highlights is the inauguration of the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan and the foundation stone laying ceremony for an underground road tunnel linking Eastern Freeway’s Orange Gate.

In line with the Prime Minister’s vision to enhance urban transport infrastructure and connectivity, the MTHL, now officially known as ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu,’ stands as a testament to this commitment, according to an official release.

During the public program in Navi Mumbai, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects valued at more than Rs 12,700 crore.

The foundation stone for the MTHL was originally laid by Prime Minister Modi in December 2016, and its completion marks a significant stride in bolstering transportation links in the region.

Key Features of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link:

– The Atal Setu has been constructed at a total cost exceeding Rs 17,840 crore.
– Covering approximately 21.8 km, the bridge includes a six-lane stretch over the sea spanning around 16.5 km and an additional 5.5 km on land.
– The bridge aims to improve connectivity to Mumbai International Airport, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and enhance travel between Mumbai and Pune, Goa, and South India. Furthermore, it is anticipated to strengthen the connection between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
– Mumbai Police has set a maximum speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour for four-wheelers on the MTHL, with specific restrictions for motorbikes, autorickshaws, and tractors.
– Toll charges for a passenger car on the MTHL will be Rs 250 for a one-way journey, with varying rates for return journeys and different categories of frequent travelers.
