The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that on Friday (12th Januray) , the nation’s capital saw its lowest winter temperature of 3.9 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the seasonal average. This is the lowest minimum temperature that has been witnessed in the previous five years.

The IMD reported that there was zero visibility at the Palam Observatory at 5:30 am due to heavy fog in many parts of Delhi. The fog caused delays for 23 trains headed for Delhi, ranging from one to six hours, according to the Indian Railways. The Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 am was recorded at 348, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Last night’s temperature fell to 5.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal; on Wednesday, it was 7.1 degrees. The daytime temperature was 18.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. According to the IMD, daytime temperatures will rise in the coming days.

Temperature predictions from scientist Kuldeep Srivastava of the India Meteorological Department indicate that Delhi residents will get a reprieve from the cold wave conditions in the coming days. He clarified that there would be no rain in the capital of the country.
