On Thursday, Bihar Police apprehended four individuals linked to the NEET question paper leak scandal.
The Economic Times reports that the suspects include candidates Anurag Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Amit Anand and Sikandar Yadavendu, a junior engineer at the Danapur municipal council.
Amit Anand, identified as the mastermind, confessed to orchestrating the leak and revealed that the question papers and answers were sold to candidates for amounts between Rs 30-32 lakh, according to ABP Live. This disclosure has triggered widespread outrage, with opposition parties and affected students across the country protesting raising serious questions about the integrity of the NEET-UG 2024 exam process.
Police have collected significant evidence from Anand’s residence, where he also admitted to engaging in similar activities in the past. The suspects have confessed to having received the leaked paper a day before the exam and memorised the answers with the exact questions appearing in the exam the following day.
In response to the scandal, the Union Education Ministry has requested a detailed report from Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit on the NEET exam irregularities. The NEET UG examination, held on May 5, saw participation from about 24 lakh candidates. While the results were initially expected on June 14, they were announced earlier on June 4 after the completion of the answer sheet evaluations.
