Prime Minister Narendra Modi, flanked by top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, unveiled the party’s manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in a high-profile event on Sunday. The document, dubbed the “Sankalp Patra,” outlines a broad range of policy initiatives aimed at bolstering economic growth, enhancing social welfare, and strengthening national security.

Here’s a look at the promises for various groups and sectors:

For the impoverished: Key among the promises are a continuation of the free ration under the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for the next five years, aimed primarily at aiding the poor.

For women: In a significant push toward rural and women’s empowerment, the BJP plans to enable three crore rural women to become “Lakhpati Didis,” integrating women’s self-help groups with the service sector. There are plans to improve infrastructure near industrial hubs, such as building working women’s hostels and expanding health services with a focus on diseases like anaemia and cervical cancer.

For farmers: Addressing farmers’ needs, the party intends to strengthen the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and expand the Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana with technological upgrades for quicker claims processing. Furthermore, the manifesto proposes a new Krishi Infrastructure Mission to upgrade agricultural infrastructure and the launch of an indigenous “Bharat Krishi” satellite to support farm-related activities.

For healthcare: The manifesto also pledges to uphold the provision of free and quality healthcare services up to Rs 5 lakh for poor families under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The manifesto also emphasises government transparency and recruitment reforms, including a new law to prevent paper leaks and enhancements to the existing Ayushman Bharat Yojana to cover senior citizens.

For the economy: On the economic front, the BJP has set ambitious goals, including making India the world’s third-largest economy and establishing the country as a global manufacturing hub by 2030. The party also plans to expand social security schemes to include drivers and empower MSMEs through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

CAA and UCC: The BJP reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and introduces the “Modi ki Guarantee” for good governance. It also supports the enactment of a Uniform Civil Code and the “One Nation, One Election” policy.

For infrastructure development: The manifesto also highlights the government’s focus on robust infrastructure along India’s borders and pledges continued regional development and peace in the northeast, including efforts to resolve inter-state border disputes.
