India entered its third phase of voting on Tuesday. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Amit Shah, political bigwigs from across the country cast their votes on May 7.

After casting his vote from Ahmedabad, PM Modi congratulated the Election Commission for successfully conducting the first two phases of the Lok Sabha elections with hardly any violence being recorded in the country.

The prime minister also said the way the Indian elections are being conducted could be a learning process for other democracies, and that it has been the subject of case studies for many universities.

‘Matdaan is mahadaan’

“Today is the third phase of voting. There is great importance of ‘Daan’ in our country and in the same spirit, the countrymen should vote as much as possible,” said PM Modi.

This phase of voting will also see Home Minister Amit Shah running from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.

Branding his inked finger, PM Modi acknowledged Shah’s candidature and asked the people of Gujarat to vote in large numbers.

After casting his vote at Ahmedabad’s Nishan Higher Secondary School, the prime minister greeted huge crowds of people and was later joined by Amit Shah.

The prime minister gave his autographs to people, greeted supporters and thanked them for exercising their right to franchise.

Lok Sabha elections phase 3

The third phase of the elections spans across 11 states and Union Territories (UTs) and will cover 94 constituencies. The first phase covered 102 constituencies while the second covered 88. The voting process will begin at 7 am and go on till 5 pm. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

The constituency of
Surat
, which was initially slated to go to polls in this phase, will not witness the election process as the BJP candidate from this seat has won unopposed.
