At least three people have died and several others have been injured after 12 coaches of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express (train number 15904) derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda on Thursday at 2:37 pm.
Government sources have told News18 that the mishap occurred after the locomotive pilot applied emergency breaks as he had heard an explosion in the background.
The coaches of the passenger train which was en route to Dibrugarh derailed over 100 km from Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow.
Meanwhile, a special train carrying 600 passengers of the affected train departed from Mankapur earlier tonight.
The Relief Commissioner at the spot informed that 40 members medical team and 15 ambulances were at the spot and more medical teams and ambulances were on their way.
Soon after the Dibrugarh express derailment news, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was briefed about the accident.
His office, in a post on X, said CM Sarma and the state government are in touch with relevant authorities.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Gonda district administration officials have been directed to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing and to rush the injured to the hospital for timely treatment.
“I pray to Lord Shri Ram for the speedy recovery of the injured,” CM Yogi said in a post on X.
Special buses arranged for passengers
The railways have arranged special buses to transport the passengers of the affected train from the Manakpur Junction.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh who reached the accident spot earlier today, said, “I have met all the officials. All the injured people have been sent to Mankapur CHC and Gonda. We are making arrangements to take the rest of the passengers to the main road and the administration is also making arrangements.”

The Ministry of Railways has issued helpline numbers in regard with the derailment of 15904 Dibrugarh Express in Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway.
Trains diverted
As many as 13 trains have been diverted after the 15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express derailment in Uttar Pradesh.
