Anurag Thakur, a former union minister, congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministers on their oath of office, which is being administered this evening at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
According to media reports, Thakur, who served as the secretary of sports, information, and broadcasting in the previous administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was let go.
“I extend my best wishes and congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his third term and heartiest wishes to all his ministers and may they do a wonderful job and take the country forward in the next 5 years,” he told the media.
Together with Smiriti Irani and Narayan Rane, Thakur is one of the three previous ministers who will not take oath of office in order to join the Modi 3.0 cabinet.
Both Thakur and Rane have won the general election from their respective constituencies, in contrast to Irani. Thakur was victorious from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh and Rane from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg in Maharashtra.
Thakur said farewell to the Modi 2.0 government, which was disbanded following the announcement of Tuesday’s election results, in a post on X.
Several NDA allies are anticipated to be among the council of ministers taking oath Thursday evening at Rashtrapati Bhavan, as the BJP failed to win majority on its own for the first time in ten years.
The Telugu Desam Party, led by Chandrababu Naidu, with sixteen seats, and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, which gave the NDA twelve more seats, will be the main focus of attention. With 240 members, the BJP is 32 seats short of a majority.
